Medical Treatment

Medical treatment is at the heart of Medici Contro la Tortura’s activities, since physical health is a prerequisite for any other kind of rehabilitation. The internist coordinates the work of all the other professionals assigned to a case (general physicians and specialists at test labs, etc., from the public healthcare system, reception facilities, and the private social sector) to obtain a better grasp of the clinical problems involved and oversee the process of diagnosis and therapy.
These services are modularly structured to respond to the specific needs of each individual, and include the following:

General medical screening

Personalized rehabilitation plan with weekly, fortnightly, or monthly checkups

Specialist care (physical therapy, gynecological care, eye and dental care)

Financial aid for healthcare expenses that are particularly urgent and/or not covered by the public healthcare system

Certification of the evidence of torture, when necessary for the process of obtaining international protection
